About Ballet without Barres

Ballet without Barres provides high quality, fun filled, introductory ballet workshops and ballet classes for beginners:  those who've never had lessons, or had lessons many years ago but feel too intimated to be thrown "in at the deep end" in open classes.

We aim to lay the foundation of ballet to inspire and set people up to pursue regular classes without feeling intimidated.

Whether you've always wanted to try ballet, or learnt as a child but have never had the courage to go back, we provide a fun, safe and supportive environment to gain a thorough grounding in ballet enabling you to continue with regular classes.

OUR VALUES

• Ballet should be inclusive: open to everybody, of any age.

• Ballet class does not need to result in performance or a professional career: it can be an end in itself

• Ballet can be started at any time in life and is adaptable enough to accommodate people of all ages and abilities

• Ballet should be enjoyable but safe: it is not about getting perfect technique or executing multiple pirouettes, it is about dancing, staying fit and being challenged cognitively.

Ballet without Barres is run by Ketta & Jane. They both have a bbodance Level 5 Diploma in Dance Teaching and are qualified First Aiders.

Hi, I'm Ketta. I've a degree in dance from Middlesex University and co-founded the Ballet Collective, offering adult ballet open classes to the Brighton area.

I've a wealth of experience teaching a wide range of subjects but I'm passionate about providing affordable, high-quality and enjoyable ballet classes to everyone - especially those who might be too intimated, or think that they might not be suitable for ballet. I believe ballet classes are one of life’s greatest gifts and am committed to opening up ballet to many more.

Hi, I'm Ketta

Hi, I'm Jane and I'm a qualified accountant! But I've also been dancing for over 40 years and my classical training and regular practice throughout that time has given me a strong technical understanding of the genre. My many years of observation in a wide range of learning environments mean I have experienced many kinds of ballet teaching.

I'm passionate about the music employed in the delivery of my classes and I believe a strong student-teacher relationship, established through collaboration and building commitment, are critical to the achievement of successful learning.

I believe in the importance of lifelong learning and I'm passionate about passing my ballet experiences onto others.
